1. CCP outreach program

Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) outreach program will be staging special performances in various local communities to bring arts closer to government workers, farmers, senior citizens and women.

Billed as “Art in the Workplace,” the series of performances aims to emphasize the vital role that art plays in national and community development. It will feature the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, Philippine Ballet Theater, UST Symphony Orchestra, and Ballet Philippines in the following communities: Biñan City, Laguna (April 4), San Pedro City, Laguna (April 7), RITM, Alabang (April 21), and Batangas City (May 18).

2. “Throwback Thursday: A Night at the Museo”

The Museo ng Makati is reopening its doors to the public for the “Throwback Thursday: A Night at the Museo,” with the aim of reigniting the art scene in the city. It is hosted by the Makati Museum and Cultural Office in partnership with Fringe Manila, KAPWA Studio, and the Pineapple Lab.

There will be nostalgic performances by the Makati Boys Choir and local Poblacion Artists, as well as upbeat jams with Daloy Dance Company, multi-media collective Heresy, singer-songwriters Nica del Rosario, Gio Levy, and Joee&I.

Making their debut at the steps of the Museo are the eclectic drumming group Adinkra Lumad Djembe Community, KAPWA Studio and Burlesque PH’s Leslie Espinosa, Burgos Beatboxing Trio, and Vancouver-based Filipino artist Ralph Escamillan. A pop-up night market will, meanwhile, will feature Poblacion’s food and handicrafts.

3. Discover Opera!

Want to learn more about opera? Visit the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino on April 20 for the “Discover Opera!” an evening of arias.

This will showcase selections from well-loved operas, such as "Cosi Fan Tutte" (Mozart), "Die Fledermaus" (Strauss), "La Traviata" (Verdi), "Marriage of Figaro" (Mozart), "Der Rosenkavalier" (Strauss), "Candide" (Bernstein), "Le Perichole" (Offenbach), "Romeo and Juliette" (Gounod), "Don Giovanni" (Mozart), "L’elisir d’amore" (Donizetti), "La Boheme" (Puccini), "La Fille du Regiment" (Donizetti), and "Barber of Seville" (Rossini).

They will be performed by Bianca Camille Lopez, Blanca Krystl Buesa, Stephanie Aguilar, Nerissa De Juan, Ma. Krissan Manikan, Jhom-erita Chua-So, Malvin Macasaet, Lorenz Lapresca, Leo Angelo Lanuza, Belford Mabunga Nil’s Flores and Renz Cruz.

Tickets are at P200 with 50% discount for students and 20% for senior citizens.

4. Giacomo Puccini’s 'Turandot' shown in HD

The fourth season of Metropolitan Opera in HD is featuring Giacomo Puccini’s "Turandot" at Cinema 3 of Greenbelt 3 in Makati.

Puccini’s final opera is an epic fairy tale set in a China of legend, loosely based on a play by 18th-century Italian dramatist Carlo Gozzi.

The CCP’s Met Opera in HD series features screenings of the latest operatic productions of the Metropolitan Opera in New York through HD digital technology.

The next production scheduled for screening at Greenbelt 3 cinema is "Tristan und Isolde" (Richard Wagner) on May 9.

5. Ateneo mounts "Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady"

When: April 19-30

The stage hit “Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady: The Musical” is set to return through the fresh eyes of millennials of Ateneo Blue Repertory. It will be staged at the Rizal Mini Theater of Ateneo de Manila University.

“Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady” is a story of a labandera, Mely, and her young and wild sister, Viva, who struggle to fulfill their dreams in a world that gives a premium to foreign superheroes with white skin and well-educated barako men who always get the job. They seem to fight to be favored in a society that has no room for them.

“Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady” will be directed by Issa Manalo Lopez, with additional lyrics and composition by Kevin Maske.

6. Twin Bill Theater tackles ovarian cancer in 'Wit'

When: April 19-May 3

Margaret Edson's Pulitzer-winning play "Wit" will be staged by Twin Bill Theater at the Trinity University of Asia, E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave. Quezon City.

The play tells the story of a woman's slow and painful death from late stage ovarian cancer.

Directed by Steven Conde, noted actors Tami Monsod, Bibo Reyes, Mikkie Bradshaw, Raymund Concepcion, Sheila Francisco, Francis Matheu and Jilian Ita-as will play the key roles.

7. Alice Reyes returns to Ballet Philippines

National Artist for Dance and Ballet Philippines’ founder Alice Reyes returns to the dance company as its artistic director.

Reyes served as Ballet Philippines’ artistic director for the company’s first 20 years. In June 20, 2014, Alice Reyes was declared National Artist for Dance by President Benigno S. Aquino III through Proclamation No. 807.
