MANILA — The unveiling of Pia Wurtzbach’s Madame Tussauds wax figure had guests seeing double on Thursday, with the lifelike details of the copy made more impressive by the original donning the same style, from the hair, to the gown and makeup.

Wurtzbach, whose Miss Universe crowning in 2015 remains arguably the most memorable in recent decades, is the first-ever Filipino to be “made iconic” by the popular wax museum.

The beauty queen herself revealed her copy, which was inspired by Wurtzbach’s appearance during the Miss Universe pageant in Manila in January 2017.

Wurtzbach’s wax figure wears a replica of the Michael Cinco gown she wore when she passed on her crown to Iris Mittenaere of France. The sought-after designer was tapped to recreate the royal blue ball gown for the Madame Tussauds statue.

The exact likeness of the figure made for fun photos involving Wurtzbach, including the mind-bending sight of the pageant queen crowning herself, this time with the Mikimoto headpiece. (When Wurtzbach won Miss Universe, its official crown was the Manhattan skyline-inspired piece from Diamonds International Corporation or DIC.)

After a public display for Filipino fans at the SM Mega Fashion Hall on Friday, Wurtzbach’s wax figure will be brought to its permanent home in Hong Kong, where it will be displayed alongside statues inspired by Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, and Lady Gaga, among others.
