Curata, best known for his bridal gown and Filipiniana designs, died Thursday of pneumonia, having contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He had been confined for a week at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center, a tribute from luxury magazine Lifestyle Asia said, before he succumbed to the illness.

He was a veteran of the fashion industry for more than 30 years, and had worked with a host of notable clients, ranging from Hollywood actress Sharon Stone, to former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, to local celebrities such as Bea Alonzo.
