MANILA—The Aristocrat Restaurant on Saturday said it is cooperating with the government after its branch along Roxas Boulevard was ordered closed for being a source of “pollutive wastewater” in Manila Bay.

In a statement, Aristocrat said it has "never allowed and will never allow any overflow or discharge to the Manila Bay."

"However, the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) called our attention with regards to necessary improvements to our waste water management connected to Maynilad, as a result of the renovation of our facilities," it said.

The restaurant said it fully supports the government's rehabilitation of Manila Bay and will "remain its steadfast partner in keeping our surroundings clean and beautiful."

The LLDA earlier issued a "cease and desist" order to Aristocrat, Gloria Maris Sharksfin, and The Esplanade San Miguel as the rehabilitation of the putrid body of water kicked off.

The three businesses were also ordered to pay penalties of up to P200,000 after an inspection prior to the cleanup showed their facilities were sources of pollution of the capital's scenic harbor.
