LAOAG, Ilocos Norte - The streets of this city erupted in a whirl of color on Friday as some 7,000 locals joined the first ever "Tan-ok Festival of Festivals" dance parade to celebrate the province's bicentennial founding anniversary.

The revelers represented the 21 municipalities and 2 cities of the province, showcasing each area's history, livelihood and local products through their vibrant costumes and props.

They will face off for the final stage of the dance showdown on February 2, which marks the 200th year since Ilocos Norte separated from Ilocos Sur.

“February 2 will be a milestone for us. We have gone so long in 200 years and basically the celebration is intended for us to reflect on the last 200 years of our history”, tourism officer Ianree Raquel told ABS-CBN News.

“The competing groups from the different municipalities have really thought what to present and that is important because we are giving them the liberty to showcase the best in their town or city,” she added.

The Tan-ok ni Ilokano or "Greatness of Ilocanos" Festival of Festivals is traditionally held in the last part of the year. It was moved to the start of 2018 to coincide with the province's 200th anniversary.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared February 2 a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte to give way to the anniversary revelries, including a literary contest, concert and the opening of the provincial capitol to the public.
