Miss Universe Philippines Maxine Medina finally unveiled her national costume during the preliminaries of the 65th Miss Universe competition, held at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Thursday evening.

To loud cheers, Medina walked onstage wearing an outfit inspired by the vinta, a traditional boat from Mindanao, which she matched with a head piece made to resemble a large piece of coral found in the country's reefs.

The whole ensemble is said to have cost more than P1 million to make as it was also adorned with south sea pearls.

The preliminary round also saw Medina parade in her swimsuit and long gown.

The top 12 of the 65th Miss Universe competition will be determined by their combined scores from the preliminaries and online public votes. One can cast their online ballot on the official website of the Miss Universe competition.

The result will be announced at a coronation night, scheduled on Monday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
