(UPDATED) If one considers who she's going up against, it looks like the Philippines' own Maxine Medina has her work cut out when she takes the stage to compete for the title of Best National Costume of the 65th Miss Universe pageant.

On Instagram, some of the candidates have begun to share photos of their national costumes. Check them out below:

Regal and resplendent in blue and white, Miss Universe Venezuela Mariam Habach will be donning a costume made to resemble Yemaya, an ocean goddess that's thought to be the mother of all living creatures. Her ensemble had an intricate and beaded design — from her large headpiece down to the foot of her flowing gown — that will surely help her make a big impact come competition time.

Sporting a similar theme but no less elegant is Miss Universe Norway's Christina Waage. She can be seen wearing a goddess-style flowing gown that represents the ocean, according to her post.

For her part, Miss Universe Thailand Chalita Suansane decided to go with something closer to home. Suansane looks stunning in what appears to be a heritage-themed costume made to represent her country's history and tradition.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe Indonesia Kezia Warouw is looking very fierce in her Garuda-inspired outfit. With huge golden-brown wings and a headpiece that's artistically rendered to resemble the holy bird of religious myth, expect Warouw to be a clear favorite.

Representing the the Flower and Coffee Fair of her home country, Miss Universe Panama's Keity Drennan is perhaps a standout if only because of her bright and colorful ensemble — a contrast to the earlier ones featured on this list, which opted for just one or two predominant colors.

Wanting to raise awareness about coral bleaching, Miss Universe Australia Caris Tiive will be donning a costume inspired by the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. It features a pink bodice she matched with a flowing tulle skirt and a colorful headpiece and shoulder accessory that's made to resemble corals.

And just in case you missed it, here's Miss Universe Malaysia's costume: a jumpsuit decked in Swarovski diamonds featuring a depiction of the PETRONAS Towers. (LOOK: Malaysian beauty queen stands tall in Petronas Towers costume)
