Catriona Gray on Monday kicked off her Miss Universe reign with a media tour in New York, which included a sit-down interview on “Good Morning America” where she talked about her advocacy for children’s education.

Gray, who turned 25 on January 6, was a radiant sight in a yellow dress as she answered questions from host Ginger Zee. Videos and photos of the interview were posted on social media by followers of Gray.

The Filipino beauty queen was first asked about her mother’s seeming premonition that she would be crowned Miss Universe. Gray, in previous interviews, has said her mother Normita Magnayon once had a dream that her daughter won a pageant in a red gown — the color Gray wore to the Miss Universe finals night in Bangkok in December.

Speaking on “Good Morning America,” Gray recalled: “When I was 13, and she first told me, I thought nothing of it. I was young, I didn’t really have that interest in pageants yet, but to see it come into fruition, I was just like, ‘Mum, are you hiding anything else about my future? I want to know!’”

Prior to winning Miss Universe Philippines, and subsequently the international title in 2018, Gray represented the country in the 2016 Miss World pageant. She only placed runner-up in that competition.

Gray, whose winning Miss Universe answer mentioned the children of Tondo, also discussed her being “passionate about helping children in impoverished areas” in her live interview on Monday.

“In the Philippines, I work with an organization called Young Focus, and what they do is they give access to quality education which, without NGOs like, those kids might never realize the dream of having an education and developing a love for learning,” she said.

The answer prompted host Zee to describe Gray as “gorgeous inside and out.”

A music theory graduate and trained singer, Gray was also asked whether her fans “will hear you on the stage,” referring to performing.

“I hope so!” Even as a Miss Universe I would love to participate in a benefit concert or something like that to really merge my love for music and in giving back. I think that would be amazing,” she said.

“Well, obviously you’re perfect, and that’s why you won Miss Universe!” Zee quipped, prompting a hearty laugh from Gray.

Gray, as of writing, was set to appear on another American talk show, “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” as her second media tour stop.
