Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate Terabyte

Nearly 1,800 full high definition movies, or 70 hours of 4K video, or half a million songs, or 256,000 24-megapixel photos.

That’s how much data can fit into Kingston’s latest iteration of its DataTraveler USB drive series.

The 2-terabyte DataTraveler Ultimate Terabyte (GT) would currently be the largest commercial USB drive in the market.

Indeed, most commercial thumb drives being sold today are anywhere between 16 gigabytes to 256 gigabytes. However, several brands are also selling models from 512 Gb to 1 terabyte of storage, though prices of these units can cost over US$600 (approximately P30,000).

Kingston’s newest drive utilizes the USB 3.1 standard, which has a transfer rate of 10 gigabits per second, fast enough to transfer a 50 gigabyte file in less than 40 seconds.

One of the key problems with large capacity drives is their sensitivity to physical abuse. Kingston covered the internal components of its DataTraveler Ultimate GT with zinc-alloy metal casing. This should be sufficient to protect the tiny device from bumps and falls.

Kingston also makes available a 1-terabyte version of the DataTraveler Ultimate Terabyte.

No price has been given on both models.

Meanwhile, those who are on a budget can opt to still purchase the tried-and-tested disc-based drives. A 1-Tb drive would only cost around P2,000.
