The first two years of the Duterte administration will undoubtedly be remembered for its controversial drug war.

It has made headlines both here and abroad, and has created ripples in the country's bilateral relations with several countries, regional organizations, and international institutions.

Local and foreign media's coverage of the drug war in the past 2 years has helped bring the issue of human rights and police abuse in the spotlight, and prompt government to modify the campaign.

The ABS-CBN Investigative and Research Group has monitored 4,665 drug-related deaths since the Duterte administration launched its campaign to fight illegal drugs, or from July 1, 2016 to July 17, 2018.

These include those killed in the government’s anti-drug operations, and by unidentified assailants, as well as bodies dumped in public places.
