Thousands of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members converged on various parts of EDSA, mostly near the EDSA Shrine Friday night. The crowd, estimated to be around 20,000, snarled traffic on the major thoroughfare, on an already hectic payday Friday.
The INC members earlier massed up in front of the Department of Justice on Thursday, but mobilization shifted to the EDSA Shrine after supposed orders from INC officials. .
The rallies started with calls on Justice Secretary Leila De Lima to stop meddling in INC affairs, following the filing of criminal charges by former INC minister Isaias Samson Jr. against members of the INC Sanggunian.
The group had been granted a permit to stage a protest in Manila up to September 4, but they did not have a permit in Quezon City nor Mandaluyong that straddles the area around EDSA Shrine.
