MANILA - Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin, the fourth most senior magistrate of the Supreme Court (SC), has been included in the shortlist to be the chief justice.

The 69-year-old Bersamin, who hails from Abra, served as a trial court judge and appellate court magistrate prior to his appointment to the SC in 2009.

He served as presiding judge of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 96 beginning November 1986, and was a Court of Appeals associate justice prior to being appointed to the high court by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
