Filipina drag queens Saki Yew and Zahirah Zapanta were announced as part of the cast of "Drag Race UK" season 6 on Tuesday.

They were among the 12 competing for the crown and will be the first queens of Filipino descent in the regular season of the franchise.

Zahirah shared how her drag was influenced with that she grew up with in the Philippines.

"So, I was originally born from in the Philippines. I mean, I grew up with gay uncles, trans icons in the family," the drag queen said.

"I bring the new school and the showgirl into a mix. These horse legs let me stomp down that stage. My signature look is definitely interacting with the audience, making them feel like they are part of the show," she added.

"Everyone just looks at me and expects me to talk like this until I open my mouth and I start screeching. The look is correct, the hair is laid, but the personality is giving a bit of a chaotic mess. I cross-dress down the street and I'll still be serving glamour."

Saki said that viewers would expect a showgirl with her skills in dance and musical theater.

"You're gonna get a show girl. It's gonna be all about my face captivating you just by a look. I am a trained dancer so I am bendy. I did full on musical theater training," she said.

"Drag Race Philippines" season 1 runner-up Marina Summers earlier competed in the franchise's "vs the World" spinoff series and ended her journey as a Top 4 finalist.

In the country, Precious Paula Nicole and Captivating Katkat are the titleholders of "Drag Race Philippines," winning in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The Emmy Award-winning original series has featured the talents of Filipino drag queens in the US and several overseas in editions through the years.

Some of the queens who joined the US franchise are Ongina (Season 1 and All Stars 5), Manila Luzon (Season 3 and All Stars 1 and 4), Phi Phi O’Hara (Season 4 and All Stars 2), Jiggly Caliente (Season 4 and All Stars 6), Vivienne Pinay (Season 5), and Rock M. Sakura (Season 12), Aura Mayari, and Anetra (Season 15).

Other franchises have also featured Filipino drag queens like Jaja and Mocha Diva for seasons 1 and 2, respectively of "Drag Race Thailand” along with Kyne (Season 1), Stephanie Prince (Season 2), Kimmy Couture (Season 3), Kiki Coe, and Melinda Verga (Season 4) of the Canadian franchise.
