After more than three decades, Michael Keaton has slipped back into one of his most beloved roles — Beetlejuice.

The mischievous, maniacal ghost from the Netherworld became an iconic figure and for Keaton, the decision to revisit the character was a no-brainer.

"It's just something I really like,” he said. “I enjoyed it the first time, and given the opportunity, I just thought, why would I not want to do this again?"

Keaton’s career is a study in contrasts. From comedic roles in “Mr. Mom” to the psychological complexity of “Birdman,” his choices have kept audiences on their toes.

But how does he decide what to take on?

"It kind of depends. There's no set way I make the decisions,” the actor said. “I always assumed people would get bored with me very, very quickly. But that’s what I think. I go: ‘Ooh. Really? They want to see me do that again. I wouldn't want to watch me do that.’”

He added: “Plus, I’m too curious. I will say that I've worked at creating or trying to have a career that was really varied, keeps you interested first of all."

For Keaton, the key is constantly seeking out new challenges and staying curious.

Along with Beetlejuice, his portrayal of Batman remains one of his most cherished and influential roles.

Reprising the role in 2023’s “The Flash,” he once again donned the iconic cape and cowl, a character that, for many fans, redefined the superhero genre.

In “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Keaton is reunited with visionary filmmaker Tim Burton, his frequent collaborator.

"Our approach to the two Batman that we did, especially the first one…that was much more challenging than people think, especially for me at that age, and what I was trying to accomplish,” he said.

“It wasn't easy. And Tim, that was another case of we were really taking a big chance on the approach to that movie. And if it didn't work, it would have been a huge failure."

Apart from Keaton and Winona Ryder, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” also stars Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, and Monica Bellucci.

The movie is now out in theaters.
