Singer-songwriter Maki is confident many will relate to his upcoming single, "Namumula," as it is a tribute to hopeless romantics who disregard warning signs and ignore red flags while chasing love. 

“Lahat tayo na experience ito… Lahat tayo nagkaroon ng phase sa buhay na tanga talaga and marupok,” Maki said in an interview with ABS-CBN News. 

“Itong kantang ito, for all the people who love red flags. Red flag enjoyers. Yun pinaka meaning ng song,” he added. 

Intentionally written as a stark contrast to the type of love depicted in Maki’s self-love anthem "Dilaw," "Namumula" explores the more painful facet of romance. 

“Dilaw ang laki ng transition. Wholesome, self-love, innocent, and warm. I want to incorporate the different types of love. Signifies love can be different colors and things,” he explained. 

“[Ito yung] hindi natin deserve. Song na ito ay embodiment of what the potential of love could be and type ng love nakakatanga,” he added. 

Like most of the titles in his discography, Maki shared “Namumula” was inspired by his own heartbreak.

“Dahil sa isang tao na-experience ko different types of love. I wrote base doon from my experience,” he reasoned.

As he continues to grow as a song-writer, however, Maki said he is learning to draw inspiration from others.

“I am learning to incorporate yung life ng friends ko. Life ng ibang tao, films. Hirap naman kung experience ko lahat. Ganon na nangyare. It is a learning. I think it proved for me I am evolving as a musician and songwriter,” he enthused. 

“Namumula” will drop on August 30 and will be one of the titles the artist will perform on his very first solo concert  on November 29.
