MANILA -- After her successful big screen comeback in the record-breaking film "Rewind" at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, Marian Rivera is set to star in another movie -- this time for Cinemalaya.

"Balota," written and directed by Kip Oebanda, highlights Rivera's versatility and willingness to embrace challenging and unconventional roles.

"Nakakakilig," said Rivera. "It was a great experience. I want to do it again."

According to Rivera, the film marks a significant departure from her usual roles and introduces a series of firsts for the veteran actress.

"I am super excited. I was able to do many firsts— no makeup, direct does not like, or say lines I usually can't in films and TV series," she said after her contract signing with the Center for Advanced Dentistry on Tuesday. "This is the fight scene I did not ask for a double."

"I have so many wounds!" she added. "But it is okay -- they will heal. At least, I was able to give my best for the film."

The film is a mix of action, drama, suspense and comedy, and Rivera hopes it can continue to bring the public back to cinemas.

"Ipagdadasal natin mabuhay lang lahat ng pelikulang Pilipino. Ang gusto natin maibalik yan sa lahat ng mga tao," she said.

The Cinemalaya Film Festival runs from August 2 to 11.

Rewind, which starred Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, became the first Philippine movie to earn over P900-M in the box office. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
