MANILA –  Kapamilya actor Joshua Garcia talked more about his upcoming romantic-comedy film "Fruitcake"  which will open in local cinemas on June 12.

Directed by Joel Ferrer, “Fruitcake” amplifies typical modern-day issues of Filipinos in life, love, and career among others. The fate of characters intertwine as they try to seek happiness and meaning amidst the chaos of Metro Manila.

The cast also includes Heaven Peralejo, Empoy Marquez, Kaila Estrada, Jane Oineza, Enchong Dee, and KD Estrada, among others.

During the film’s media and fan conference last Saturday, Garcia described the film as a feel-good “barkada” movie.

“Mas masaya siya panoorin kung kasama mo 'yung barkada mo. At hindi lang ito isang kwento, maraming kwento ‘to na pinagsama-sama” Garcia said.

Ferrer said "Fruitcake" is the opposite of the feeling of isolation that most people had to bear during the pandemic.

“Parang istorya 'to na ayaw mong mag-isa, ayaw mo ng isolated ka sa mga tao. Ang sarap lang gumawa ng pelikula na refreshing siya for me kasi you can see a lot of people tapos alam mo lahat konektado. Parang baliktad na baliktad 'to sa naranasan natin nung pandemic na lahat tayo magkakalayo, ito parang lahat tayo connected,” Ferrer said.

Meanwhile, Peralejo and Estrada said their characters in the film are very different from their previous projects.

“Siyempre nakaka-panibago and si Direk Joel lang 'yung naglabas sa ’kin ng comedy side. So talagang I trusted him kung paano 'yung treatment na gagawin kasi di ba mas drama ako, mas serious sa acting,” Peralejo said.

“Dito sa 'Fruitcake' siyempre different din siya for me kasi nga parang first time ko rin to be part of a comedy project so medyo nakakapanibago rin but I’m glad to be part of 'Fruitcake,'” Estrada said.

Meanwhile, Peralejo said the film offers a reflective journey for the audiences.

“Hindi ko po ‘to nagagawa – itong character na ‘to so mapapatawa ka. Marami kang mare-realize na mga bagay-bagay and it’s just full of love also,” she said.

OPM singer-songwriter Yeng Constantito gives a new flavor to “Fruitcake” by Eraserheads, which serves as the official soundtrack of the film.

The film is presented by Cornerstone Studios and Create Cinema, and is written by Ferrer along with Miko Livelo.
