MANILA -- "The end is here."

Radio station Wave 89.1 on Monday quietly bade farewell to its listeners.

The FM station with the call letters DWAV started its broadcast in the mid-70s and is known for playing hip-hop, R&B, rap and urban music. It announced that it made its final broadcast through an official statement uploaded on its social media accounts.

“While our heart is being pinched, we want to officially announce that Wave 89.1 has made its final broadcast. So many memories. Good times and bad. Laughter and tears. We changed the game. No one can say otherwise,” the statement read.

“Thanks to all the former DJs, managers, directors, techs, guests, and anyone who has ever set foot in our studio.

You helped us make history,” the station added.

In the comment section of the radio station's post, listeners paid tribute and shared their stories about Wave 89.1.

"This station solidified my love for hiphop and RnB during my late teens 💯 when Spotify, Youtube and even music on mobile phones still weren't a thing. Y'all indeed a game changer on PH FM," one Facebook user said.

"This is my fave radio station even when I was in Canada. It brings back memories during my HS and college days. Things do happen for a reason but I hope that we will have you again to bring entertainment to people like me who love listening to music. No goodbyes, just see ya later folks," another commented.
