MANILA -- Celebrities mourned the sudden death of award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose, who passed away on Saturday, March 2. 

Jose, real name Mary Jane Guck, died in her residence in Quezon City. Based on initial information gathered by ABS-CBN News, Jose had not been replying to messages and calls from her relatives. This prompted them to have someone check on her, and she was found lifeless in her home.

On social media, celebrities including Dimples Romana, Rita Avila, Ogie Diaz, Gardo Versoza and Gladys Reyes paid tribute to Jose.

Lito Lapid, who worked with Jose in her last TV project ‘Batang Quiapo’, sent his statement to ABS-CBN News.

 “Si Jaclyn po ay isang alagad ng sining na naging bahagi sa di mabilang na likha sa larangan ng pelikula at telebisyon. Ako po ay biniyayaan na makatrabaho si Jaclyn sa kamakailan lamang sa pelikulang 'Apag' at sa "FPJ's Ang Batang Quiapo."

 He added: "Hindi po matatawaran ang kinang ng kanyang bituin na nagbigay liwanag sa napakaraming likhang sining na nagpayaman sa ating kultura at sumalamin sa ating pagka-Filipino."

Jose's talent management, PPL Entertainment Inc., also confirmed Jose's death and said that "more details will be shared as soon as they are available."

"The Guck and Eigenmann families are requesting for everyone to please pray for the eternal repose of Miss Jaclyn Jose and for them to be allowed the respect and privacy to mourn her passing, and navigate these difficult times," PPL Entertainment said in its social media posts.

Actress Jaclyn Jose has passed away

"Isang pasasalamat sa isang pinakamamahal na bituin at Kapamilya. Paalam at maraming salamat, Jaclyn Jose."

Jose, who started acting in the 1980s, was playing the role of prison warden Dolores Espinas on "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" at the time of her death.

Jose memorably won the Best Actress award in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for her role in "Ma'Rosa." In the local scene, Jose received acting accolades from Gawad Urian, Famas, Luna Awards and other award-giving bodies. 

She earned a FAMAS nomination in 1984 for her debut on "Private Show," and a Gawad Urian for Lino Brocka's 1985 film "White Slavery."

On television, her portrayal of Magda in the series "Mula sa Puso" took her popularity to new heights.
