MANILA -- Mikha Lim of the nation’s girl group BINI easily stands out because of her head-turning red hair.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Mikha shared the story why she decided to color her crowning glory, red.

“Red is my favorite color,” she said. “I actually had been wanting to dye my hair red since I think the era before ‘Karera’, way back before that pa.”

The management already gave her the go signal to do so, but she had to delay it because of some projects that she was on, like "He’s into Her." But when she already did, she realized and shared that maintaining the red hair was a bit of a challenge.

“Bawal ako mag-white tops, 'pag pinagpapawisan. Tapos 'yung nails ko pag white or anything light, nagiging pink siya or red ‘coz when I shower. I retouch my hair siguro mga once or twice a month, tapos every time I shower nagbe-bleed lahat ('yung water).”

Fast forward to today, Mikha has fully embraced her standout hairstyle and she knows that it has been her trademark or signature look that makes her ‘Mikha’.

“Madali rin akong makilala,” she admts.

Family is her 'weak spot'

Mikha has been riding high with the stratospheric popularity of BINI especially this year. She admits being popular or famous has its perks but also has a downside. She misses being anonymous, going out and being free.

“Sometimes, there are times na ‘eto ba talaga, is this what I really wanted?’ she said.

“Kasi like before, ah walang nakaka-recognize sa amin. But then now, oh wow may nakaka-recognize. Pero then you realize, oh shucks 'yung privacy ko.”

She fully understands when fans go to her and ask her for photos. “Pero hindi mo naman mapipigilan 'yung tao kung idol ka nila. It’s respect. Let’s take a photo, there’s nothing wrong with that,” she said.

Balance is the key, according to Mikha. “I’m not yet used to it, pero 'yun smile smile.”

“When I’m with my friends, wala akong (pakialam), akbayan, worry-free. Pero for sure, ngayon it’s different na. People who watch us, not everyone will know us, and know our behavior. So baka nami-misinterpret.”

Same thing happened when she went out with her family, together with her brother Enzo who is a soccer player. Being an athlete and known to some like her, Enzo was clueless as to how popular her sister was already.

“There was this one time, kakabalik ko lang from US. He wasn’t really aware kung gaano nag-boom 'yung BINI. And we went out to a mall, gusto lang namin mag-family bonding. So I didn’t wear a mask or cap, bahala na I’m with family naman. And we’re at this gaming place, and there were a good 20 minutes and another 20 minutes of picture taking. And my brother was like, ‘I don’t wanna go out with you anymore’.”

“So every time we’d go out, he always reminds me ‘Oh Mikha, where’s your hoodie, your cap, your mask?’ But he’s very supportive.”

During the "BINIverse" concert at the New Frontier Theater, Mikha was obviously emotional after seeing her whole family during the show.

“It’s my weak spot talaga when I see them cry, especially my dad. He doesn’t cry a lot,” she said.

Mikha and the rest of the girls are now in full swing when it comes to preparing for the much-awaited "Grand BINIverse" concerts on November 16-18. Expect a lot of surprises, Mikha said.

During the "BINIverse" at the New Frontier Theater, she surprised everyone when she performed with an electric guitar. Can we expect her to do another rock chic performance for the "Grand BINIverse'?

“Dun lang 'yun. I was like, I wanna show them something that I’ve never done. I really like anime and this tune is very iconic. At since very limited lang 'yung slots namin for solos, we need to compress it and konti lang 'yung parts na kinuha ko. I just learned it for the 'BINIverse,'" she said.

She added, “I guess that they expected an ‘astig’ performance. Obviously, I wanted to show different sides of myself.”

But she does own a guitar. She use it just for recreational practices or hobby, and her go-to tracks when she just feels like humming or strumming are “Can’t Help Falling in Love” or “Leaving on a Jet Plane.”

Filipino hip-hop artist Ron Henley was part of the artist lineup at the recently concluded OPM Series: Hip Hop Fest, held at the SM North Edsa Sky Dome on February 22.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, he shared that his break in the past months was due to him focusing on becoming a father.

“Sa bahay lang kasi nag-aalaga din ako ng anak. Nag-focus muna ako sa pagiging ama. Kababalik ko lang magtanghalulit. Ito nandon pa rin yung kaba, yung excitement,” Ron Henley shared.

The hip-hop star is now a proud father to his eight-month-old daughter, Shira Haza Nirvana, whom he happily brought along during his recent music fest stint.

Just last December, Ron Henley also shared his first Christmas with Shira on Instagram.

On back to performing live, the rapper-songwriter admitted that it was refreshing to have a different set of audiences, stepping away from their usual gigs with a more intimate setting.

“Parang na-expose kami sa ibang set naman ng audience. At nakaka-tuwa din na may bago kang tagapakinig. Para sa kanila fresh pa yung kinakanta mo years ago, nakakabigay ng gana ulit.” he shared.

The "Hagdan" hitmaker, along with fellow rapper, Loonie, also offered advice to emerging artists in the hip-hop scene, noting that it's okay to make mistakes and learn from them along the way.

“Gawin mo lang nang gawin, wag kang matakot magkamali. Habang maaga pa, maitatama yung mga mali. Saka siyempre, kung talagang passion mo, lahat gagawin mo para maitawid yung passion mo na 'yon. Kumbaga, gawin mo lang yung nasa puso mo, mahalin mo lang yung ginagawa mo, ‘yun lang,” he added.

The hip-hop artist also shared that in songwriting, inspiration can be found in the simplest things you encounter or experience daily.

He even revealed that his love for plants, as a self-proclaimed "plantito," served as the main inspiration for his song "Ilandasanwakan," a reversed word for "Nakaw Na Sandali.” The song featured words such as flowers, gumamela, and santan.

"Mahilig kasi ako sa mga halaman eh plantito. One time naging, ano, plantito. Kaya, isa sa mga, ano, mga naging inspirasyon ko, yung mga halaman na alaga ko,” he explained.

Fans can also expect more songs and collaborations from the rapper-songwriter.

“Sulat-sulat lang din ako, collab-collab. Last na collaboration na nagawa ko is yung with Skusta (Clee) and Yuridope,” Ron Henley shared, referencing their song "La Luna."
