MANILA—Even their first opponents, the singing trio Maka Girls, couldn't help but applaud them after their cover of the Bishop Briggs hit "River," which earned a standing ovation from judges Billy Crawford and Nadine Lustre in Saturday's "Your Moment."

The Verse Band, made up of siblings who hold gigs to support their family, emerged as the group who will be moving on to the next round of the talent show, in the singing category.

They first beat the Maka Girls, who wowed with their rendition of Francis M's "Tayo'y Mga Pinoy" but fell short with a score of 82.22%. The Verse Band received 85% from the judges.

Lustre described Verse's showing as "amazing," while Crawford gushed that it felt like he was watching a professional concert. Boy Abunda said that they had him from the very first note.
