MANILA – Rayver Cruz admitted it was quite challenging for him to portray his role in the movie “Ang Larawan.”

Speaking to entertainment site PUSH, Cruz said he got nervous when they were filming because he was acting alongside experienced performers from the worlds of music, theater and film.

“Siyempre nakakakaba pa rin kasi hindi naman ako literal na kumanta doon sa film. May mga words na sinasabi ako pero hindi naman siya solid na kanta. Pinagsayaw nila ako, which is mas comfortable akong gawin,” he said.

While he is used to performing on stage as part of the variety show “ASAP,” Cruz said he worked hard in this movie to veer away from what he usually shows his audience.

He said he feels honored that he was chosen to be part of this Metro Manila Film Festival entry.

“Sobrang happy ako na nakapasok ako sa movie kasi solid na musical ito ng culture ng Pilipinas. Tapos yung mga actors pa dito mga legends na sa musical industry - Mr. Ryan Cayabyab, yang si Direk Loy. Sobrang blessed rin ako na naisip nila akong kunin,” he said.

“Ang Larawan” is based on the play “A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino” by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin. It tells the story of sisters Candida (Joanna Ampil) and Paula (Rachel Alejandro), whose family falls into financial trouble after their father, painter Don Lorenzo Marasigan, became unable to produce artworks.

The movie also stars Paulo Avelino, Robert Arevalo, Nonie Buencamino, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Sandino Martin, Nanette Inventor, Noel Trinidad, Jaime Fabregas, Dulce, Bernardo Bernardo, Aicelle Santos and Cris Villonco.

“Ang Larawan” opens in Philippines cinemas on December 25.
