MANILA — Actor Miko Palanca has passed away, his family confirmed in a statement sent to ABS-CBN News. He was 41.

"We are extremely saddened by the sudden passing of our beloved brother, Miko Palanca. The whole family is grateful for the incredible outpour of love and support that has been coming in today. As of now, we would like to respectfully request for privacy as we go through this very difficult time. Again, we appreciate all the love and support," the statement read.

The family did not give further details about Palanca's death.

On Monday, the Film Academy of the Philippines via its Facebook account extended its sincerest sympathies to the family of Palanca for his untimely passing.

Local celebrities including veteran host Boy Abunda mourned the death of Palanca.

"Let's continue to pray for the soul of Miko Palanca," Abunda said in Monday's episode of "Tonight With Boy Abunda."

Star Cinema also mourned the death of Palanca.

Palanca, the younger brother of fellow actor Bernard Palanca, was known for his roles in ABS-CBN teleseryes, including “Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay” and “It Might Be You.”
