It got rave reviews when it premiered at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival last month.

But just in case that's not enough to convince you to watch Loy Arcenas's "Ang Larawan," its star, Rachel Alejandro, guested on "Tonight with Boy Abunda" to explain just why Filipinos should.

"I think it's important because hindi lang niya ibinibida ang galing natin sa literature, hindi lang sa theater, but in music as well. Ipinapakita natin sa buong mundo ang galing natin sa paggawa ng pelikula," she said.

She added: "Magiging proud kayo. Sobrang matutuwa kayo, tataba iyong puso at maalala ninyo what it means to be Filipino."

"Ang Larawan" is based on the play "A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino" by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin, and features music from the Ryan Cayabyab and lyrics from Rolando Tinio.

It also stars Joanna Ampil, Paulo Avelino, Robert Arevalo, Nonie Buencamino, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, among others. It will premiere in the country as part of this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.
