MANILA -- In “Regine at the Movies,” the first concert of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid as a Kapamilya artist, Asia’s Songbird cannot be thankful enough for the full support extended by the network to her latest musical endeavor.

Three top Kapamilya artists guested in the show on three, different nights. Piolo Pascual joined Velasquez onstage last November 17, the first night of the concert, while Megastar Sharon Cuneta was Regine’s special guest Saturday night.

The Songbird opened the new show with “I Will Always Love You,” from Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard” movie with Kevin Costner. Velasquez’s voice immediately soared to stratospheric heights and her audience was ecstatic, shouting “I love you, Regine,” right from the opening number.

She gave the audience a familiar piece, “Got to Believe in Magic,” used as the title theme of the film with reel and real sweethearts, Claudine Barretto and the late Rico Yan. Apparently, the love team still excited the fans, who screamed when they saw the couple on the screen.

Velasquez shared she had to painstakingly learn close to 50 songs for “Regine at the Movies,” with Raul Mitra as her musical director. Not that everything was included in the repertoire every night. They had to vary the songs each night, to give the audience a different experience. Paolo Valenciano was the concert/stage director.
