MANILA -- Veteran character actor Nonong "Bangky" de Andres passed away on Tuesday in Plaridel, Quezon. He was 71.

The sad news was confirmed to ABS-CBN News by de Andres' nephew Paolo Capino.

Capino said that his uncle died at the house of his friend Mayor Bernard Tumagay.

Jose Clemente de Andres in real life, the veteran actor suffered emphysema and other illnesses before he died.

De Andres was popularly known as “Bangkay” in horror and comedy movies and “Bangky” in ABS-CBN's 2014 hit series "Forevermore," which starred Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.

He got his screen name "Bangkay" for portraying "dead" persons in several movies.
