MANILA, Philippines — Producers of “Till I Met You” said they intended to use a controversial scene in one of its episodes to show the consequences of young and reckless love.

The show’s October 25 episode, which included a love scene between James Reid and Nadine Lustre, received a lot of attention online and prompted MTRCB to summon its producers.

A statement released by the primetime show’s executives on Saturday said that “prior to the airing of the questioned episode last October 25, the producers, by way of self-regulation pursuant to MTRCB policy and practice, did send a letter to the MTRCB informing them that the episode will bear the classification of SPG (Strong Parental Guidance) because of the sensitive material involved.”

It added that the context behind the scene was lost among viewers who took it on face value.

“The intent of the episode to show certain sensitive scenes was to make viewers aware not only of the consequences of young and reckless love but also how impulsive acts of this kind of love occur in real life,” the statement said.

“There are lessons to be learned where decisions are made on impulse. We hope that the program will be appreciated in its entirety and some scenes not taken out of context.”

On Friday, MTRCB chairman Toto Villareal said his office does not intend to censor the show over the controversial episode.

“We are always fair, we want to know where people are coming from, sama sama tayo kung paano pa maunlad ang ating industriya,” Villareal said, adding that it’s the public’s right to voice its concerns when it sees something it doesn’t agree with.

“Mas kakabahan nga ako sa isang sitwasyon kung walang magsasalita. I assure Jadine fans and other televiewers na may stake ang lahat dito,” added Villareal, who said “fan din ako ng love teams noon.”

The dialogue between MTRCB and the show’s executives will take place on November 10.
