MANILA—John Arcilla is distancing himself from a movie project about Filipino patriot Gen. Miguel Malvar that will star world champion boxer and senator Manny Pacquiao.
The producers said that Arcilla will feature in their movie as Gen. Antonio Luna, a role Arcilla became known for following the success of his eponymous movie.
But a statement by TBA Studios, which produced "Heneral Luna," said it wants to make it clear that Arcilla has not been approached to do any cameos or appearances in the Malvar movie.
The production company also said that Arcilla has reached out to them for "assistance regarding the matter."
"There are restrictions involved and we were surprised he was name-dropped without permission. It's fake news," TBA Studios said.
Malvar's descendants has said they were also not approached by Pacquiao and the producers of the planned biopic.
Pacquiao said he agreed to star in the Malvar film as a way to help reintroduce the story of war heroes to younger Filipinos.
