Rx Tiri of T-REX Entertainment signs a deal with ABS-CBN Films managing director Olivia M. Lamasan. T-REX Entertainment

MANILA -- ABS-CBN Films has joined up with T-REX Entertainment as part of a content partnership which will include making "experimental" and "brave" movies -- the first two of which will be released next year.

The deal, signed Tuesday, will see the two production companies work together to bring "fresh concepts" to a mainstream audience.

It includes two films: "Open," a romantic drama about open relationships starring JC Santos and Arci Munoz; and "The Mirror," a horror flick with Mccoy de Leon and Heaven Peralejo.

"Open" will be led by director Andoy Ranay and is set for release early next year. "The Mirror," on the other hand, is headed by Kenneth Lim Dagatan, the writer of 2017's "Bloody Crayons."

Both are currently in production.

T-REX Entertainment is a production company best known for the acclaimed MMFF comedy "Deadma Walking" and "Patay na si Hesus," a dark comedy that was considered the "sleeper hit" of the 2017 edition of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

"This is what T-Rex is bringing into the table. We want to do a lot of new concepts, brave concepts," T-Rex Entertainment head Rex Tiri explained in an interview during the signing.

He noted that his company's tagline is "Productions That Matter," adding, "we would propose to ABS-CBN Films concepts that are so hard to do but can be done."

It is understood that the terms of his deal with ABS-CBN Films also includes three other movies, but the details of those are being kept secret as they are still being finalized.

He also said that as much as possible he would like to experiment with partnerships between Kapamilya stars, pointing out that the pairings in the first two movies are both new.
