MANILA, Philippines – Actor Cesar Montano is playing Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim in an upcoming film biopic slated to be released in January next year – the fourth movie to be made on the high-profile official.

Montano, who will also direct the movie with the working title “Turning Cradle: The Untold Story of Alfredo Lim,” said the fourth biopic on Lim will touch on the mayor’s early childhood at the Hospicio de San Jose orphanage, as well as his struggles to finish his studies.

That’s why Montano said this latest film about Lim will be different from the earlier movies, which focused more on Lim's exploits as a law enforcer.

“Lahat matigas eh. Matapang, strikto, disciplinarian. Dito ay tatalakayin naman natin ang puso ni Mayor Lim. Maipapaliwanag dito ang buo niyang pagkatao, na may puso pala siya na marunong din umiyak,” Montano said in a press conference on Monday.

The late Rudy Fernandez was the first actor to play the mayor in the biopic, “Alfredo Lim,” which was released back in 1977. Former Sen. Ramon Revilla also played Lim in “Target: Police General (Maj. Gen. Alfredo S. Lim Story)” in 1990. And in 1995, veteran actor Eddie Garcia took on the role for “Alfredo Lim: Batas Ng Maynila.”

Lim said he personally picked Montano for the new project, adding that it was only the former "The Singing Bee" host who took interest about his childhood as the other producers before him chose to focus on his police exploits.

Montano thanked Lim for commissioning him to do the fourth film about his life and said he is excited to begin filming.

He said he took interest in the untouched portion of the mayor’s life after reading a book about him written by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin.

The film’s scheduled release in January seems timed for next year’s elections, which will see Lim competing with former President Joseph Estrada in what many expect to be a tight mayoralty race.

Montano acknowledged as much when he said on Monday, “Dun natin maikukuwento kung bakit dapat ulit na maging alkalde si Mayor Lim. Kung bakit siya nararapat manatili dahil isa siyang mabuting lider. Mahirap pamunuan ang Maynila kaya kailangan talaga nito ng isang matatag at may paninindigang lider.”
