MANILA - No less than "The Hulk" himself marveled at his likeness made with a uniquely Filipino twist.

It's another point for Filipino ingenuity as Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo has praised a local toy maker's use of recycled tsinelas or rubber slippers in crafting an action figure of "The Hulk," the livid character he plays in the Avengers franchise.

"Believe it or not, this #Hulk doll is made out of recycled tsinelas (that's Tagalog for flip-flops)," said Ruffalo in a post on Instagram Friday.

"Not only is this inventively creative, but it's sustainable and just pure awesome!" the Avengers star said, lauding Cavite-based Elmer Padilla, who repurposes used flip-flops into action figures.

Ruffalo is a known environmentalist and co-founded the Solutions Project, which aims to help the world transition to "100% clean energy."

On his own Instagram account, Padilla posted a photo of himself while making the same figure, along with one of The Hulk's fellow Avengers Thor.

Aside from superheroes, Padilla creates toys modeled after characters from comics, popular films and animated features.
