Janine Gutierrez stars in ‘Babae at Baril.’ QCinema

MANILA — The annual QCinema International Film Festival on Friday handed out Pylon Awards to winning entries, actors, and filmmakers.

“Babae at Baril,” which follows the daily struggles of a department store saleslady, took home top honors, including Best Director for Rae Red, and Best Actress for Janine Gutierrez.

“Cleaners,” a coming-of-age anthology about high school classroom cleaners, similarly won big, with trophies for best screenplay and best film.

  • Gender Sensitivity Award, Asian Next Wave Competition: “Babae at Baril”
  • Best Screenplay, Asian Next Wave Competition: Glenn Barit, “Cleaners”
  • Best Artistic Contribution, Asian Next Wave Competition: Lee Chatametikool (Editing), “Nakorn-Sawan”
  • Special Jury Prize, QCShorts Competition: “Tokwifi” (Carla Pulido Ocampo)
  • Best Actress, Asian Next Wave Competition: Janine Gutierrez, “Babae at Baril”
  • Best Actor, Asian Next Wave Competition: Por Silatsa, “The Long Walk”
  • Best Director, Asian Next Wave Competition: Rae Red, “Babae at Baril”
