MANILA -- The historical biopic "Heneral Luna" has now reached its "break-even" target of P240 million, director Jerrold Tarog announced Sunday.
Tarog took to Twitter to break the good news.
Aside from announcing the film's earnings, Tarog also announced that "Heneral Luna" will be shown again in SM Cinemas on Monday.
The critically acclaimed film, which is the country's official entry in the 2016 Academy Awards, presents a detailed look into the life and death of General Antonio Luna during the Philippine-American War.
The film, now on its fifth week, passed the P200-million mark last week, a feat that can be considered a major achievement for the film, which only managed to earn a little over P15 million during its first week.
However, backed by positive reviews and strong word of mouth, it broke the usual pattern of dwindling returns, making P44 million and P100 million for its second and third week, respectively.
"Heneral Luna" stars John Arcilla, Mon Confiado, Epi Quizon and Joem Bascon.
