MANILA (UPDATE) - Actress Maja Salvador bagged the best actress award at the Asia Contents Awards 2019 in Busan, South Korea.

Salvador was recognized for her role as Lily Cruz and Ivy Aguas in the teleserye "Wildflower."

In her acceptance speech, Salvador thanked ABS-CBN for entrusting her with the role.

"It was an honor to be trusted with this role by our network, ABS-CBN, and the whole team of Wildflower," she said.

She also specifically thanked veteran actor Tirso Cruz III for challenging her to do better.

"I share this recognition to all of my brilliant colleagues in the show, most especially to the veteran genius, Mr. Tirso Cruz III, who upped my game and encouraged me when I thought I had nothing more to give," Salvador added.

Salvador's drama series "Wildflower" was nominated in the Best Asian TV Drama category but lost to "Hormones" from Thailand and "Faculty" from Singapore.

"Yung ma-nominate ka lang okay na, pero 'yung manalo ka lalo na Busan International Film Festival tapos first Asia Contents Awards. Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na parang bitbit mo ang buong Pilipinas, parang ang pakiramdam ko nanalo ako ng Miss Universe," she told ABS-CBN News.

Salvador also said the award is the best birthday gift she has received.

"It was my birthday yesterday, so happy birthday indeed sa akin," she added.

The first Asia Contents Awards aims to reward the finest TV dramas produced across Asia in the last five years.

It is organized by the renowned Busan International Film Festival and Asian Film Market, an annual film market in South Korea.

"Wildflower" continues to make waves worldwide as it airs in New Caledonia, Polynesia, and Reunion with the recent partnership of ABS-CBN with Ampersand fiction, a French content distributor.

It is also currently shown in several French-speaking African countries and will soon air in Madagascar this October with the Kapamilya network's deal with Startimes. - with a report from MJ Felipe, ABS-CBN News
