She was rejected when she auditioned for the competition's first two seasons. He failed to reach the grand finals on his first time around. Both of them were looking to make this rare chance count.

In the end, it was down to Elaine Duran and John Mark Saga.

John Michael dela Cerna, the other finalist who made the top three, took a back seat to the two favorites, his Bon Jovi medley falling short.

Duran had explained that winning the contest was what she wants the most now --her fiery cover of Shanti Dope's "Nadarang," which mixed ballad and rap, representing the "fire" in her.

Saga said that "Tawag ng Tanghalan" had validated him and gave him the stage to express himself, and he did so wonderfully by performing a string of moving December Avenue covers.

But there can only be one winner.

It was revealed that the judges gave Saga the win (19.32% over 16.16%) but the public made themselves heard, favoring Duran (25.02% vs. 14.28%). It was that close.

Yes, there can only be one winner.

But that doesn't mean that people can't remember both of them as there's definitely this feeling that this was perhaps the closest finals of the "It's Showtime" era of the competition.

Duran and Saga, while coming from different circumstances, had very similar motivations. They wanted to make the best of what this opportunity and they definitely did make it count.
