MANILA -- Former matinee idol Jojit Paredes passed away on September 24 in Los Angeles, California.

Paredes's sister Trinity confirmed the news in a Facebook post.

"It is with our deepest grief and sadness to announce that our beloved brother Jojit whom we love so much passed away this morning here in Los Angeles. Please pray for him," Trinity wrote.

A report published by PEP on Wednesday said the Paredes family also released a statement via Facebook.

"Today we say goodbye to Jojit Paredes, who passed away peacefully today in Los Angeles, surrounded by loved ones.

He loved making music for every one of you who ever bought a ticket to his concerts, every one of you who ever bought his records, every one of you who listened to him on the radio, every one of you who watched him on TV or movies, every one of you who wrote to him or read about him, every one of you whoever shared a memory or an experience with him while listening to the Guitar Man, or a Beautiful Sunday. Now he is free, and he leaves behind a family who will miss him dearly, and you, the fans, who he will always be in his heart. This is goodbye for now, but he will live on in our hearts, through his love, and through his music. 'And when my mind is free You know a melody can move me And when I'm feelin' blue The guitar's comin' through to soothe me,'" the statement read.

Paredes's cover of Daniel Boone's "Beautiful Sunday" was his biggest hit.

He also worked with veteran actresses including superstars Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor.

Paredes, who migrated to the US in 1985, staged a reunion concert with his good friend Ronnie Henares last year.
