MANILA -- Team Sarah's last two standing artists, according to a competing coach, gave "the peformance of the night" on "The Voice of the Philippines" in its live episode held Saturday night at the New Port Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.
For their duet, Morissette Amon and Klarisse de Guzman performed the Christina Aguilera hit "The Voice Within," which was chosen by their coach, Sarah Geronimo, to mean a "conversation between friends."
The remaining eight artists in the competition performed a duet with their respective team mates on Saturday. This will be followed by a solo number from each competing artist on Sunday's live episode.
Both performances will be used as basis for the coaches' scores for their respective artists, which will be given on Sunday. Public voting, via text and online during commercial breaks, will resume with the same scheme in the second semi-finals episode.
Combined with equal weight, the coaches' scores and the results of the public voting will determine the Top 4 artists to compete in the grand finals on September 28 and 29.
'Lord, help me!'
Commenting on Amon and de Guzman's duet on Saturday, coach Bamboo Manalac referred to it as "the performance of the night."
"Excellent. Naku mahihirapan ka, Sarah," he said, turning to the pop singer. "Because napaka-similar ng genre niyo (Amon, de Guzman), parang parehas, nasa parehong mundo kayo eh. Pero napaka-iba rin ng kulay ng boses niyo.
"Klarisse has a lot of pop in her vocal, while Morissette is very clean and precise. So ang hirap nito," he said.
Geronimo thanked both artists for giving a "professional" performance which managed to impart the song's message, noting they could have easily relied on "birit" to impress.
"Syempre expected, bibirit kayo, pero girls, thank you at naging professional kayo. Talagang great music lang 'yung binigay niyo sa'min, 'yung mensahe ng kanta ay pinarating niyo sa amin. Maraming salamat," she said.
She added: "Alam niyo magkaiba talaga kayo eh. Hindi na siya question kung sino ang mas magaling, kasi pareho talaga kayong magaling, magkaiba kayo ng galing."
"So Lord, help me!" Geronimo quipped.
Also performing on Saturday for the Top 4 slots were Team Bamboo's Myk Perez and Paolo Onesa, Team Lea's Radha Tinsay and Mitoy Yonting, and Team Apl's Janice Javier and Thor Dulay.
