MANILA, Philippines -- Her big move to become the newest Kapamilya star comes poetically for former sexy star Diana Zubiri, who endured long lines year after year in hopes of becoming a member of five different Star Circle batches.

Diana Zubiri (right), seen here with ABS-CBN Channel Head Cory Vidanes, was all smiles
as she signed her contract with the Kapamilya network on Friday.

"Maraming beses po akong pumila dito sa ABS-CBN para mag-audition, dahil napakahaba po ng pila para sa Star Circle batch 6, 7, 8, 9 at 10. Lahat po 'yun dinaanan ko, dinaanan rin lang po ako ng camera," Zubiri told ABS-CBN News on Friday.

Before "Star Magic talents," ABS-CBN's talent management arm groomed young talents collectively known in batches as "Star Circle."

On Friday, the former sexy star inked a contract with the Kapamilya network to be part of its stable of talents.

"Kahit sino naman po mabigyan ng ganitong opportunity, mas masaya pa siguro 'yung pwedeng i-express," said Zubiri, who became infamous for her "bikini photo shoot" along the EDSA-Shaw Boulevard flyover in Mandaluyong City in 2002 for men's magazine FHM.

Since then, Zubiri became known as a comedienne, and later as a dramatic actress on TV and film.

Sexy star turned comedienne turned actress

In March, when she was still enrolled in a theater arts program in an exclusive-for-girls college in Quezon City, Zubiri won her first acting award.

She was cited as best performer by the Young Critics Circle for her role in "Bahay Bata," an independent film about a nurse working in a crowded maternity hospital.

With her transfer to ABS-CBN, Zubiri intends to further hone her craft as an actress.

"'Yung motivation [sa pag-arte], marami naman po tayong mahuhugot based on experience, at 'yung paghahanda, siguro magwo-workshop po ako ulit since matagal po akong nagpahinga sa pag-arte," she said.

For her first major project as a Kapamilya, Zubiri revealed she will be starring alongside actor Gerald Anderson and actress Cristine Reyes in an upcoming primetime series.

"Looking forward ako sa mga bagong taong makaka-trabaho ko dito sa ABS-CBN," she said.

Over a decade since she was a mere Star Circle aspirant, Zubiri can only marvel at her achievement at 27.

"[Nung hindi ako nakapasa sa Star Cirlce] nalungkot ako, nawalan ng pag-asa. Pero tingnan mo naman, ngayon after 11 years, nandito na ako sa ABS-CBN," she said.
