Despite sharing cinemas with another major studio release, “Miss Granny” continued to draw moviegoers over the weekend, bringing its box-office haul to P135 million.

The 12-day tally was announced Monday by producer Viva Films, which also said the Sarah Geronimo-starrer is still showing in 160 cinemas nationwide.

“Miss Granny” was the lone mainstream local release for a week with its August 22 opening. Its nationwide distribution peaked on its opening weekend, with 230 cinemas screening the Joyce Bernal film.

Despite its box-office performance — “Miss Granny” achieved a single-day gross of P21 million last August 26, for instance — the family dramedy settled for a smaller cinema count on its second week, with the release of Star Cinema’s “The Hows of Us.”

Similarly a highly anticipated film, the romance drama features Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Geronimo’s fellow Kapamilya artists who, like the pop star, have tested mettle at the box office.

As of Sunday, September 2, “The Hows of Us” has grossed P279 million after five days in theaters, according to Star Cinema.
