MANILA – South Korean girl group GFriend returned to the Philippine concert stage on Sunday, bringing a 3-hour spectacle that displayed an exchange of fervent devotion between fans and artists.

Despite the heavy downpour, fans trooped to the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City for GFriend’s one-night-only show, part of the group’s “Go Go GFriend” Asia tour. It comes nearly a year since the sextet had its first solo concert in Manila.

Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB and Umji performed before Filipino “Buddies” their songs, distinguishable from other K-pop acts because of its heavy leanings toward orchestral pop.

The girls also proved to be skilled dancers, executing complex routines effortlessly and in perfect synchronization.

Loud cheers greeted the members as they opened the concert with a vibrant set composed of the 2015 hit “Me Gustas Tu,” and songs “Life is A Party” and “Vacation.”

The group also performed past singles “Rough,” “Navillera,” “Fingertip,” “Love Whisper,” “Time for the Moon Night,” “Memoria,” and “Sunrise.”

The members were especially a regal sight during “Memoria,” which they sang while clad in rhinestone-embedded dresses.

Sowon, SinB and Yuju performed a song called “Monday Blues” under the team name World Peace, while Umji, Eunha and Yerin performed “Shy Boy” as team Hug Hug.

The girls later revealed that World Peace and Hug Hug were candidates for their team name while the songs were unreleased tracks.

The group also sang “Hope,” which they had written as a tribute to fans.

The concert ended with the crowd throwing paper planes as GFriend sang “Compas,” which told fans that they will fulfill their dreams together.

Eunha thanked fans for their support despite differences in language.

“Despite the fact that we’re far from each other and we have different languages, thank you for constantly supporting us,” she said in Korean.

The Manila leg of “Go Go GFriend” was made possible by MyMusicTaste, a crowd-sourcing platform for music and live events.
