MANILA – American actor Tyler Hoechlin is coming to the Philippines later this week as one of the celebrity headliners of the 2017 AsiaPop Comicon.

Before he flies into the country for the first time, ABS-CBN News got the chance to interview him where he opened up about his expectations of the Philippines.

“I'm actually really disappointed that I won't have more time to spend in Manila and the rest of the Philippines. I've never been and I've always wanted to,” he said.

Although he has yet to set foot in the country, Hoechlin already vows to make “another trip back sometime, but it will be great to meet all the fans there.”

In the same interview, Hoechlin opened up about his return to the popular MTV series “Teen Wolf” for Season 6 as alpha wolf Derek Hale.

“I can't say too much about his upcoming involvement, but he definitely had a massive evolution from the beginning to end. Derek was a very angry and lost person when we first met him. Even before these upcoming episodes, the last time we saw him he had become much calmer and fulfilled in finding his purpose,” he said.

Aside from playing a werewolf on TV, Hoechlin has also consistently stunned fans since he was cast as Superman in CW’s “Supergirl.”

When asked which between his two characters is more difficult to portray, the actor said: “I think with every character, you just try your best to connect to something in them that you can understand. Sometimes you have to stretch further than others, but I believe empathy is one of the greatest tools for an actor.”

Hoechlin said he enjoys playing Superman because he is “inspired by the overall story of the character and his evolution from conception to the present day.”

Prodded to reveal what’s the best part of being a popular superhero on TV, Hoechlin said: “Well being able to go up to the little kids watching us shoot in downtown Vancouver and see them light up because they think they're actually meeting Superman, is a pretty crazy feeling. It was really fun to meet them and talk with them.”

Hoechlin also has good words for his television cousin Melissa Benoist, who plays Supergirl.

“Melissa is simply the best. We have so much fun working together, and she's a great person to have leading that set,” he said.

An established performer who had been acting since he was 9, Hoechlin's first big break came when he played the timid Michael Sullivan, Jr. in the crime film “Road to Perdition.” This landed him several nominations and awards, as well as the role of Martin Brewer in the long-running series “7th Heaven.”

In addition to the two TV series where he appears in, Hoechlin will also be part of “Fifty Shades Freed,” the third installment in the best-selling “Fifty Shades” series.
