MANILA — Kris Aquino’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “(K)ampon” will no longer push through, the actress announced on Friday, citing its late casting change that goes against the organizer’s rules.

“Pinalaki po ako to abide by the rules . . . So unfortunately, my return to horror was not meant to be for MMFF 2019,” Aquino told her followers on social media.

According to Aquino, the MMFF executive committee denied the request of change of lead actor from Derek Ramsay to Gabby Concepcion, on the grounds that it was submitted five days after the deadline for such adjustments.

Ramsay withdrew from the project on August 2 because he had to prioritize his network contract with GMA-7, Aquino said in an earlier post.

Concepcion agreed to be Ramsay’s replacement on August 4.

The deadline to apply for the change was on July 31, Aquino said, but the production group behind “(K)ampon” sent the letter only on August 5.

“I have read the suggestions na mag-appeal,” she wrote on Instagram. “Pinalaki po akong may delicadeza. Two members of the executive committee are friends. One is one of my closest friends, kaya hindi ko magawa.”

“Tulala [ako] ngayon kasi bukod sa hindi tuloy ang isang project na ginusto ko talaga, may ilang milyon din na sagutin kami sa MMFF bond, production staff, crew, and artists,” she said.

The film would have been a co-production of Quantum Films and Cornerstone, with Aquino as an “investor,” she earlier shared.

“Thank God I have these two,” Aquino further said in her Instagram update, referring to her two sons. “Because of them I still look forward to better days ahead.”
