MANILA -- "Funny Juan" grand winner Ryan Rems Sarita is set to star in a sitcom along with veteran comedian Bayani Agbayani and the other finalists of the just-concluded "It's Showtime" segment.
In an interview on Wednesday, Agbayani said their upcoming show "Funny Cafe" is inspired by the '80s sitcom classic "Cafeteria Aroma," which starred Apeng Daldal, Manok, Miniong Alvarez and Johnson.
Agbayani said he found out from Kim Atienza that "Cafeteria Aroma" was based on a real-life Cafe Aroma, which was located at the the corner of Recto and Avenida Rizal and served as a hangout for actors and showbiz denizens during the vaudeville era.
"Canteen talaga 'yon kung saan bago sila mag-shooting doon sila tumatambay," Agbayani said.
"'Yun ang gagawin namin sa 'Funny Cafe.' Ako bale ang may-ari ng cafe at silang lahat ay pinag-aampon ko. Example, si Crazy Duo gusto mag-abroad napeke ng illegal recruiter, nagpunta sa akin inampon ko. Si Ryan Rems, nagbo-board sa akin pero ang trabaho niya ay English teacher online. Iba-iba ang trabaho nila sa cafe, tapos sa gabi ay pinagsho-show ko sila," he explained.
Agbayani further revealed that they will also look for new comedians in the show.
"Bubuo kami ng parang 'Funny One' contest. Magpapasok kami on the spot ng mga stand-up comedian na maga-audition doon sa loob, so within the show," he said, adding that he is hoping that the show will be aired soon.
"Inaayos pa kasi nila 'yung mga requirements at saka budget," he said, promising that it will premiere within the year.
Meanwhile, Agbayani reiterated that he is thankful to be given the chance to return to Kapamilya network.
"Yan naman lagi inaasahan ko basta maniwala ka sa talento mo, alagaan mo pamilya at magandang buhay ang tahakin mo puro blessings ang darating sa 'yo," he said.
Aside from "Funny Cafe," Agbayani said there are also plans for another sitcom, this time with celebrity couple Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin.
"Kapatid ako ni Angel. Sana po Lord matupad," he said.
