MANILA – It’s no surprise that Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 Mariel de Leon is drawn to showbiz, being the daughter of veteran actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong.

De Leon, who will represent the country in the Miss International 2017 pageant this November, is also preparing for her role as Coco Martin’s leading lady in the Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Ang Panday.”

But as early as now, she is already expressing interest in another showbiz project.

Asked by a fan on Twitter if she is open to portraying the role of the iconic Filipino mermaid Dyesebel, De Leon replied: “No offers but if there was one, I would love to do it after Miss International.”

Some of the actresses who have portrayed Dyesebel in film and television include Anne Curtis, Marian Rivera, Charlene Gonzales, Alice Dixson, Alma Moreno, Vilma Santos, and Edna Luna.

De Leon is hoping for a back-to-back victory for the Philippines in the Miss International pageant, which was won by Kylie Verzosa last year.

Aside from being a beauty queen and a newbie actress, she is also part of the female classical group Opera Belles.
