There's something uncomplicated about Lucas Garcia, who is just one magnificent singer. His background suggests that it should be at least a little complicated; he grew up pretending to be a man whenever he joined singing contests and he comes from a broken family.
But one can't help but forget about all those when he takes the mic. When he auditioned with his amazing "Lay Me Down" cover, all he said was that he wanted to make his mom proud and to achieve their shared dream of him becoming a singer.
There was little need to focus on his past, nor on his determination to prove those who said that an openly gay person has no chance of winning the competition, although one must note that both are essential in how he approaches his performances. But the judges' comments always were about how "beautiful" his voice is.
He's definitely a favorite and has been evidently getting the lion's share of public support. He topped last week, the last hurdle before this Saturday's start of the finals.
