MANILA — Amid the coronavirus pandemic, MYX Philippines is pushing through with its annual awards show but through a virtual celebration.
Set to happen on Saturday, the country’s top artists will be honored in the first-ever virtual MYX Awards that will be available on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
Aside from exciting performances from OPM artists, a number of international acts are also set to make an appearance for the online viewers. Among them is Vietnamese-American artist Keshi, who is the voice behind the new song "2 soon."
Also set to hit the virtual stage of the MYX Awards is American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, who is the daughter of of Star Trek and Star Wars director JJ Abrams. Carving her own path in the music scene, the 20-year old Abrams released two singles, "Mean It" and "Stay," in 2019. She also released just recently a seven-track album called "minor."
The 2020 MYX Awards will be hosted by Ai dela Cruz, Anton Fausto, Dani Mortel, Edward Barber, Robi Domingo and Samm Alvero.
The list of nominees for the 2020 MYX Awards was released last May.
IV of Spades leads the list with six nominations, including Artist of the Year. They are up for three awards for the track "Come Inside of My Heart," including Song of the Year; and two more for their collaboration with Rico Blanco, "Nagbabalik."
Shanti Dope earned six nods — two for his single "Amatz," and three for his collaboration with KZ Tandingan, "Imposible."
Moira dela Torre, meanwhile, is nominated for Artist of the Year, plus four more awards, including Collaboration of the Year for "Patawad, Paalam" with I Belong to the Zoo.
Ben&Ben and SB19 are also up for multiple awards, including Artist of the Year. The boy group is likewise vying for New Artist of the Year, alongside Gibbs, Frankie Pangilinan, Syd Hartha, and Zephanie.
