MANILA, Philippines – Rocker Bamboo Manalac and Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap completed their teams on “The Voice of the Philippines,” leaving only Sarah Geronimo as the only coach who has yet to get the required 12 contestants on her team.
Broadway actress Lea Salonga already filled up her 12-man slate on Saturday.
On Sunday’s episode of the hit talent search, apl.de.ap won over Salonga and Geronimo for 16-year-old Jessica Reynoso of San Pedro, Laguna, who wowed the coaches with her powerful vocals on Alicia Keys’ hit, “Fallin.’”
Apl.de.ap practically begged Reynoso, who also has an African-American father whom she hasn’t met yet, to pick him, calling her his “long lost sister.”
“When you were singing, parang lumilipad ako,” Apl.de.ap told the contestant. “I have to same story as you do. Since I really relate to your story, I’m really gonna take care of you and guide you the right way. I feel like you’re my long lost sister. Please pick me. I want you.”
“I want you too,” Reynoso told the rapper.
After her audition, apl.de.ap vowed: “I am going to work hard to make her known internationally.”
Jewel from Subic
Manalac, meanwhile, completed his team of 12 with Denise Sagun, a 34-year-old teacher from Subic, who sang Jewel’s “You Were Meant For Me.”
The rocker described Sagun’s voice as “angelic,” although both Salonga and Geronimo noted that they heard touches of Jewel in her performance.
“‘Yung personality, ‘yung fire mo, perfect fit,” Bamboo told her.
