MANILA, Philippines -- Actress Carmi Martin used to cry over being single. But today, she proudly declares that "being single is my choice."

Martin, who is popular for her sexy onscreen characters, admitted she would cry over not having a relationship, and, by extension, a family of her own.
In an interview with "Bandila" anchor Boy Abunda on Monday, however, Martin made clear she has found other sources of happiness and contenment in her life, pointing to a degree she earned from continuing her studies.
"Parang mahirap naman kasi 'yung magpa-kasal ka dahil lang sa sinasabi ng tao," Martin said when quizzed on her being single at 48.
"At saka parang before talaga, I used to cry a lot, I used to pray a lot, pero ika nga, medyo nilipasan na rin ako ng masyado excited na mag-asawa," she added.
Over time, the actress said she has accepted being an "independent woman," and celebrated the joys that came with it.
"So mas nae-enjoy ko, kasi parang I accepted being single. ...Positive naman 'yung dating sa'kin [ng pagiging independent], kasi nagde-desisyon ako for myself, at saka parang pack and go 'yung lifestyle ko. Kumbaga ito 'yung gagawin ko, madali akong mahatak, pero 'yung sa mga choices na maganda naman sa buhay," Martin said.

Among the recent destinations of her "pack and go" pace in life is her college campus, where she finished a program in interior design.

After finishing a certificate course in Interior Design at the Philippines School of Interior Design in 2003, Martin in April 2011 obtained a degree in the same course from the Philippine Women's University.
"Gusto kong tapusin 'yung college ko, because I took interior designing sa PSID. Hilig ko talaga ang mga bagay na magaganda, sa interior, or sa damit, lahat. Nasasayahan ako," Martin said when asked about her choice of course.
Even though her schedule as a student and as an actress proved challenging, Martin said she finished her studies in the university with very little "special" adjustments.
"I [made] it a point na gusto ko talaga pumasok sa school, kasi that's my decision. Pumasok, nag-college ako, so that I can learn, hindi lang para sa title," Martin said.
A part of the so-called "Dolphy's Angels," Martin still juggles her professions as an interior designer and as an actress.
In fact, Martin is set to return to the big screen via the suspense-horror film "The Healing," where she is set to co-star with veteran actress and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos.
Directed by Chito Rono, "The Healing" will hit theateres on July 25.
