Cardo appears dead by the end of the July 16 episode of ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.’ ABS-CBN/Dreamscape Entertainment Television

MANILA—Cardo’s so-called “unli-life” has been the subject of jokes since the first season of “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” in 2015, and on Tuesday night the cycle continued as the character portrayed by Coco Martin appeared to be dead by the end of the episode.

In the Tuesday, July 16 telecast of the Dreamscape production, Cardo sought to hunt down Bungo (Baron Geisler), but was blindsided and was stabbed several times by his latest nemesis.

“Sisiguraduhin ko na hindi ka na mabubuhay, Dalisay!” Bungo said, before firing his gun five times at the already defeated Cardo.

Task Force Aguila had just managed to rescue its members captured by Bungo, but the victory was short-lived as Cardo coughed blood and seemingly lay lifeless after his encounter with the criminal leader.

Intercut with Cardo’s apparent death was a scene of his wife Alyana (Yassi Pressman) witnessing an omen as a framed picture of her husband fell on the floor.

“Did Cardo just die?” went a flood of questions on Twitter as the episode ended at that cliffhanger, making “Cardo” a top trending topic on the social media platform on Tuesday night.

A teaser for the upcoming episode showed Cardo being rushed to the hospital, so some fans counted on his survival.

Others said, in jest, that it was finally time for Cardo’s “unli-life” to run out, after several instances of his near-death over the four-year run of “Ang Probinsyano.”

Some fans correctly pointed out that Martin, the actor, was photographed filming scenes with a new guest star, screen veteran Judy Ann Santos, on Monday — evidence, they said, that the odds will always be in Cardo’s favor.

The undisputed No. 1 TV program in the Philippines, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” has survived several competing shows in the past four years — adding a layer of amusement with the “immortal” Cardo also battling audience rivals.
