MANILA—The top 8 of "Idol Philippines" were asked to perform some of the country's most streamed songs for the third set of live rounds, which started Saturday.
Zephanie Dimaranan was the fourth contestant up and she drew a glowing comparison with Sarah Geronimo for her cover of the pop royalty's hit, "Isa Pang Araw."
Vice Ganda got the praise train going by gushing that Dimaranan deserves to be in the grand finals.
Regine Velasquez acknowledged first that she saw nothing special with Dimaranan during the earlier rounds. Though this view of hers kept changing with each performance.
"I think one of the reasons why you improve is because you listen to the musical director and iyong nagki-critique sa'yo," she said, before comparing Dimaranan to Geronimo.
"The first time I saw this was with Sarah Geronimo. I'll see you in the grand finals," Velasquez said.
Hosted by Billy Crawford, "Idol Philippines" airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
